Part 2: Glazing Ceramics Workshop

PART 1: HAND BUILDING WITH CLAY ☑

Learn to sculpt your very own one-of-a-kind reliquary (see below) for your most special relics, trinkets, and curios in the first workshop of the series. You will have two hours to build your creation in earthenware clay. Everyone is welcome to join in: I will guide you to adapt the scope of your vision to suit your skill level and experience with clay. After the workshop, your piece will be dried and fired, and is then ready to glaze. 

SKILLS FOCUS:

• Making pinch pots 
• Scoring and slipping to assemble 
• Using organic materials to add texture 

PART 2: GLAZING CERAMICS (OPTIONAL)

You may then choose to leave the piece with a raw terracotta finish, or choose to book workshop 2, where you will learn basic techniques to hand glaze your reliquary in the colours of your choice. Please make sure when you book workshop 2, that it's at least four weeks after workshop 1 to allow enough time for your work to be dried and fired. When your work is finished, you will be notified via email to collect your piece, or it can be delivered to your door for an additional fee.

Location: Pink Ember Studio, 22 Allenby Street, Coburg North, VIC. 

Getting here: Limited parking on street, but surrounding streets have parking. Ten minute walk from Batman Station. Seven minute walk from North Coburg Terminus/ Sydney Road Tram Stop (Tram 19). 

What to wear: Clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty.

COVID safety: Please note that this is a COVID safer workshop, and that we ask everyone to wear a K/N95 or similar mask. Additionally, the air is HEPA filtered and ventilated for your safety. Please stay home if you are unwell, or have been in contact with a COVID positive person, and you will be refunded or rescheduled.

A sliding scale system is when one product has variable price points, where the amount that you pay is dependent on your financial position. This system aligns with my values as it allows me to provide workshop tickets at a more affordable price to those who need it, no questions asked. To access sliding scale tickets, enter the associated code at checkout. When purchasing multiple tickets, please put through a separate order for each different price point.

Consider paying more on the scale if you work full time, have access to family money and resources in times of need, own assets, or travel recreationally. WAIT... WHAT'S A RELIQUARY?!

Inspired by ancient vessels for holy bodily ephemera, these sculptural forms are homes for your most sacred objects. You might choose to display your jewellery, crystals, or obscure collection of tiny things in this multi-cupped receptacle. A reliquary physically and philosophically elevates whatever is lovingly placed within, communicating to yourself and others that these objects matter, and maybe one day, they will be your heirlooms.
